Illumination of overhead cranes
For safe operation of lifting equipment it is very important to ensure visibility of the work area, as well as illumination on the bridge or cart when carrying out adjustment and repair work
Consider the specifics of lighting overhead cranes, taking into account the requirements of regulations
Under crane lighting. The need for under crane lighting for overhead bridge cranes is explained by the fact that a hoisting machine of this type, moving around the site, obscures the installed general site lights, so the visibility in the work area can become insufficient. This creates additional danger for people working below
Permanent crane lighting is a must for:
▪️ the operator’s cab
▪️ equipment booths and rooms where nodes are located
▪️ the crane area when performing work
The voltage supplied to the flood lights with AC current may not exceed 220 V. If the system is powered by a three-phase 380 V network, step-down transformers must be used for the above purposes.
For direct current, voltages of no more than 600 V are allowed, provided that the devices are connected in series
All devices must not be switched off when the main switch is turned off, unless it is a booth or service platform for the gearboxes, provided they are placed on a movable cart
The electrical circuit of the flood lights connected before the safety panel must be switched off by a separate circuit breaker
It is a mandatory requirement of the rules governing safety requirements for the GPM that crane metal structures must not be used as current carrying devices when installing lighting systems if the voltage exceeds 36V
This is due to the danger of electric shock to crane workers (signalers, hitchmen) if they touch the load-carrying equipment.
Repair. In some situations when carrying out repairs on lifting equipment, it is necessary to install temporary lighting devices. It is required for lighting when organizing repairs and maintenance of assemblies
If such lighting is installed on a crane, its arrangement must comply with electrical safety regulations:
-
Open lamps are forbidden
-
Lamps must be covered with a grid
-
The light unit must be equipped with a hook or loop for convenient hanging
-
The voltage must not exceed twelve volts
-
The plug used to turn on the portable light may not fit into a 220V outlet
The adjustment of this component is a prerequisite for compliance with occupational safety rules and is prescribed by regulations
This ensures the safety of operations using hoisting devices in the dark
